DESCRIPTION: Offered for your review and consideration is this very nice and
completely intact (with no fractures or loss)early to mid 20th century Anglo-Ind
ian hand carved and hand painted, highly decorative square format, stout wooden
foot stool or ottoman. It has its original painted surfaces which are dry and
matte finished. There's some surface wear from previous use but by and large,
the footstool has survived its80 to 100 year lifespan in fairly well-preserved
overall antique condition. The hand painting is quite exuberant and
extraordinary, with gestural, kinetic mark-making, using a central floral
medallion painted on the interior basin and a meandering vine and repeating
blooming flower motif along the outside perimeter of the footstool on its
narrow sidewalls. The surface of the table, since it's slightly recessed and
surrounded by a raised, elevated edge, could accommodate a panel of square cut
glass to protect the painted surfaces below. This is what makes early 20th
centuryvintage Indian hand painted wood furniture so alluring. Absolutely
gorgeous. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
