For sale is a rare Burmese “Shan” Buddha Statue.
We were told that the statue dates to around the 17th century. It is cast
bronze, depicting a seated Buddha in the “Mara Vijaya” position.
This Buddha was once gilded with gold. Over many years, the gilding has rubbed
away, leaving a reddish tone.
This piece was discovered during an archeological excavation outside of
Mandalay. The excavation happened during the 1940s towards the end of the
British colonial era.
There are still bits of dirt in its crevices.
The Buddha appears to be in overall good condition. There is a missing chip on
the front right, and we are guessing that his head had a pointed top at one
time. These age flaws do add character however
It measures around 6x5x 10 inches
