ABOUT MASK/FIGURINE
Carved to represent the dignifying shape of a woman role model & mother, this
spectacular sculpture is named “Nimba” or “D’mba” in origin Guinea Bissau. The
mask is sculpted from a single piece of hardwood and is one of the heaviest
masks from Africa. The sculpture’s breasts are a testament to her raising and
nursing her infants with selfless dedication.
D’mba sculptures are traditionally a dance mask and worn over the shoulders
during a ceremony. Each mask over time has been decorated differently with some
being plain and others highly decorated with metal plates, brass tacks and
jewelry. Mask featured in this listing has a highly detailed and ornate metal
finish which is extremely rare and simply jaw dropping. D'mba sculptures are a
perfect collector item and a corner statement piece guaranteed to demand
everyone's attention.
